which way are you running?
When some of you read the title, you will instantly have a thought come to your mind of which way you are running. Others of you ill think I am crazy to even ask such a question because there seems to be only one logical way to run. The rest of you will question if you are running the right way and how you know it's the right way.
I think we're all a lot like Jonah. God told him which way to run, but God's way scared him. So he decided to run the other way, and that only got him in more trouble and stuck in the belly of a fish. I believe that deep down, Jonah knew which way was the right way to go. I think he knew it was right to listen to God, but it scared him and he wanted the easy way out. He didn't act any differently than the rest of us. If you are given two different choices, it seems logical to take the easy one instead of the hard one. In fact, most people would call you dumb for taking the hard choice. That's where God is different. He gives us the choice so that we will go where He wants to lead us without resentment. God isn't going to force you to do the right thing or make the right choice He will only provide opportunities for you too. Sometimes i wonder why bad things happen, but lately, I've been wondering if some of those bad things had happened if i would have paid more attention to God. Some things, like a death of a loved one, are inevitable and is the way God created life, but other things, like injuries, a break in friendships, or career changes, I wonder if God put them in life to draw us back to Him. What if i was taking the easy way out of things, and that wasn't going to take me where God wanted, so He had to place other things in my life to lead me elsewhere. He might have still let those things occur, but if my focus had been more directed on Him instead of the change, would the change in life had been easier?
"Everything happens for a reason" is a saying that is very familiar and heard a lot when hard times come. What if that reason is solely there to draw us closer to God. Even when we want to follow where God leads, and do our best to follow, sometimes we still end up not giving God 100% of our trust out of fear.
I would like to think that I am running towards God and the plans He has for me, but I don't know if that is always the case. It can be really hard to trust and follow when we can't see where it leads or where it ends. God has placed a dark cave in front of us and asked us to walk through it. He promises to light the way and show us which way to go, but we still can't see in the dark and still don't know where the cave will take us. As humans, we don't like that. Everyone wants to have their life planned out, their 5 year, 10 year, game plan and when they don't or it changes it becomes a source of stress in their life.
Are you running towards the cave and God's plan for you, or are you running away or around the cave trying to make it to where it leads without God's help?
