Dear Me...
Dear 17 year old me...
enjoy senior year. don't study so much, enjoy your time with your friends as this year will go by faster than you want it to. go to that party, go on a date with that boy. invest time in those around you, be intentional about your relationships and time. read your bible more, play more music. go visit grandma and grandpa more. focus on God. be in the moment, stop worrying about the future, it will all work out the way it is supposed to. your marks aren't everything, they aren't worth the stress. enjoy every moment you have, the people around you, won't always be there.
Dear 18 year old me...
life sucks right now, hey? you'll get through it. it's tough, but you are tougher. stop being angry at the world, forgive yourself for what happened, it wasn't your fault. bloom where you are planted, choose to be content in any situation, whether you chose it or not. (Philippians 4:12) life isn't as bad as it looks. the things you will learn from the situations you are in, you won't want to trade for anything. they are hard, but one day you will be thankful for them. be intentional, pray for the people you say you are going to, make plans with people, make time for God. read your Bible, you cant hear from God if you aren't listening. stop isolating yourself from the world because of anger. find your strength, peace, and hope from God. i promise that this will all be worth it.
Dear 19 year old me...
invest more time into helping people. pray for your volleyball girls. speak life into them. don't waste this place that you were put in. that boy doesn't matter in the long run, that hurt will fade. focus on God, He is forever. be joyful, be a light, stop hiding your story, it's worth hearing. God has you right where He wants you, let Him use you. stop being scared of life and what you can't do. find things you can do, and do them well. use the situation you are in, to be a leader, to show love, God's love. your life, your story, can either make a positive impact on someone else's life or a negative one. you choose. choose love. choose joy. it will get you further. be vulnerable with people about your hurt, and anger and pain. let people be vulnerable with you. a vulnerability isn't a weakness, but a strength, a way to reach others in ways beyond what an easy, non-vulnerable situation can. share your heart with others, it's so worth it.
Dear 25 year old me...
i hope by now, your health is better, i hope, you can enjoy life to the fullest now. i hope, you have a job that you love. i hope, you are being intentional. i hope, you are looking to God for answers and not to the world. i hope, you have your priorities straight and are being intentional with your time. i hope you are sharing your story and leaving a positive impact on people, not a negative. i hope you are being a light, and not hiding your talents and struggles. your struggles make you human, and strong, not weak. i hope, you have good friends -- life long friends. friends that you can rely on for anything and everything. i hope you are happy, and if you aren't, i hope you change that.
Dear younger me. your struggles do not define you, they aren't what make you up and they aren't something to be ashamed of. those things that were hard, have taught you many things, and your time of hardships isn't over yet. the things you have learned, you will be glad you learned earlier in life. this hurt and pain are worth it. trust God's plan, it's a good one.
learning these things was hard, and i am sure many more hard things are to come, but i would change what happened to me if it meant i wouldn't have had the chance to learn these things.
1. being intentional with others, is so much more important than you will ever know.
2. life sucks, but everyone's life does at some point in time.
3. being vulnerable, is rewarding, even though it is hard.
4. show love, in all circumstances. you never know what other people are going through.
5. life is fragile, it changes quickly, at any time. sometimes for the good, and sometimes for the bad.
6. you are more, than what others tell you, and what situation you are in.
7. people are going to fail you, it's the way it goes, don't stop loving.
8. forgive. forgive others, and yourself. it's important.
9. be content where you are, and who you are with, you'll be happier.
10. you don't have to be blooming, to be growing. don't give up.
11. just because God does not remove the thorn, doesn't mean He's not using it for you good, and His glory.
12. God, who knows every star by name, and the exact number of hair on your head, knows exactly how to heal your wounds, great and small-- don't doubt His timing.
13. when you feel isolated, God is preparing you for something big.
14. the enemy isn't attacking you because of where you ARE, but because of where you are GOING.
15. both the good and bad are happening for a very important reason, one day, you will see that. don't lose hope.
16. loving and forgiving people, is always worth your time. investing in those people who need love and forgiveness even when it's hard is so powerful.
17. sharing your story, being vulnerable makes you real and shows how powerful Christ is. share.
18. prayer is more powerful than you could ever imagine.
19. being genuine with people, might get you judged, but will also show a Christ-like character.
20. love. love. love. love when it is easy, and when it is hard. going that extra mile for someone is so worth it.
Dear older me. i hope that these things you have learned, you are still learning about. i hope they are still challenging you and making you think more of others instead of yourself. you have learned these things, because of a hard time. don't be scared of another hard time coming, it will do you some good. i hope that hard things will make you grow, that you will see what you have overcome, and believe you are strong. God makes you strong, let Him. pursue God with everything you have. He is pursuing you with everything He has and will forever, relentlessly be loving and pursuing you. i hope there are new people and new life situations challenging you, that you are growing in your love for God and you haven't grown weary. i hope you still don't suck at being truly vulnerable with people because being vulnerable will take you far in life. trust people, let yourself trust people. i hope you know what defines you. that it's God that defines you, not the world. lastly, be happy, be content. find peace and comfort in God and know how powerful prayer is and how big of an impact it can make on a situation.
